The Miracle

Why does this luxe legend continue to cultivate a cult following among celebs and skincare addicts from Fire Island to the French Riviera to Fiji?

La Mer's miraculous story began more than forty years ago, under extraordinary circumstances. Aerospace physicist Max Huber was conducting a routine experiment in his lab when it exploded in his face, leaving him with severe chemical burns. Frustrated by the few remedies available, Dr. Huber went back into his lab, and twelve years and some 6,000 experiments later, Crème de La Mer was born.

What Huber—and the Crème's legions since—discovered, was that Crème de la Mer miraculously improved the skin's appearance, leaving it softer, firmer and looking virtually creaseless. Even the driest complexions were healed.

At the crux of the Crème is its algae-and antioxidant-abundant Miracle Broth™. Packed with sea kelp, calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron, lecithin, Vitamins C, E and B12, plus oils of citrus, eucalyptus, wheat germ, alfalfa and sunflower, there is nothing miraculous about the ingredients. But the way they are distilled into the Miracle Broth—a bio-fermentation process which takes 3-4 months to complete and culminates in a compound greater than the sum of its parts—is where a star is born.

Even with today's technological advances, La Mer's Miracle Broth is still manufactured by the same slow, meticulous bio-fermentation process developed by Dr. Huber. It starts with freshly-harvested seaweed from the California Coast, which is rushed on ice to the labs in New York. There, the seaweed and other broth components are fermented by a series of light and sound waves, releasing vital energies and bringing it to its full potency. Since each jar of Crème de La Mer is hand-filled to sustain its delicate balance, quantities are limited.
